Letting Go

A core memory of mine is from a time in elementary school when my entire class was made to write a short story every day for a writing competition. In the end, our teacher would choose one book from each student to enter into the contest.

I wrote a few books and drew a few pictures to go along with them. Fun! I like to write and get creative in general so great! But I eventually grew tired of this task. I don’t remember how many books I wrote or how long this assignment lasted but the thrill was gone and I was running out of ideas. I stopped writing about what I thought would make a good book or from a place that would win or be chosen.

Instead- I began writing about whatever was at top of mind, even when it felt mundane or insignificant. A book I wrote titled Me and My Shadow was submitted and ultimately won the competition.

I was excited and proud of myself, but even more than that, something clicked for me at that young age. Something I’ve carried with me ever since.

Me and My Shadow was the result of flow, not force. It came from a truly authentic place of reflecting on my everyday life and how my shadow and I do everything together. I particularly remember a picture I drew for the book of me jumping on a trampoline (a depiction of the one in my actual backyard) with my shadow, casted by the sun, right there next to me.

Feels symbolic when I think back on it- my inner child, shadow work, the way I’ve been reprogramming limiting beliefs for several years now. There’s something there and this lesson has been following me forever; this idea of surrendering the illusion of control by just simply, but not always easily, being β€œmyself”. But who is β€œmyself”? Still figuring that out and the answer is ever-evolving. I guess that’s called life.

StarBody Report

Venus moved into Gemini last Friday, promising us all a more playful Cancer season than we might’ve anticipated. In particular for me- seeing that Venus is in my 5th house of fun, vitality and self expression 😁 Which house is Venus in for you currently? Remember- the houses show us where the energy of an astrological transit is most prominent.

You’re familiar with Gemini, right? Gemini season was the one before Cancer and chances are you were feeling a bit more stimulated (especially mentally) from mid May to mid June than you are now. Gemini typically brings a flirty, buzzy, lively kind of curiosity unlike any other sign.

Venus, the planet of love, beauty, values and receptivity, is in Gemini encouraging open mindedness and invigorating conversations. This is an excellent time to get social, you never know who you might connect with and where it may lead you. Not feeling social? Things like reading, journaling, watching documentaries and researching your favorite topics are all encouraged and will be more enjoyable while we have this extra brain power so-to-speak.

Supporting your mental clarity and preventing burn out is crucial while Venus is in Gemini til July 30th.

Although this transit typically brings the good vibes, Venus often leans on the indulgent side (sugar cravings, anyone?) and because Gemini rules the nervous system, this can make for a slippery slope. If you are feeling dysregulted, try some breathwork before reaching for the dessert. I know- not as fun but maybe more fulfilling than you might imagine because Gemini also rules the lungs.

Til next week,

:) Ferris
